Long-Term Survival Following Multivessel Revascularization in Patients With Diabetes

The FREEDOM (Future Revascularization Evaluation in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus: Optimal Management of Multivessel Disease) trial demonstrated that, in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and multivessel coronary disease (MVD), coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is associated with a reduction in major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events at a median follow-up of 3.8 years when compared with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using drug-eluting stents (DES).
